Postal Index Number (PIN) or pin code is a numbering system used by India Post, a Government of India agency to identify a post office. The PIN was introduced on August 15, 1972. Pin code is a 6-digit number. The first 2 digits in pin code represents the postal region, 3rd digit represents the division. The last 3 digits in the pin code represents the post office and starts with 001. 001 typically represents the head post office.
